Abstract

The purpose of this study is to guide the direction of the graduate school of nursing by analysing the present situation and curriculum of graduate programs in nursing education which prepare new nurse practitioner and nursing research scholars and educational administrator in order to meet various social needs.
This analysis is based on the data from 15 graduate schools in nursing. The contents of guestionnaire are ¢¥masters and doctoral degree programs in nursing¢¥, ¢¥masters degree course in professional graduate school of nursing¢¥, ¢¥administration, finances and facilities of graduate school¢¥, ¢¥welfare of graduate students¢¥, ¢¥professors¢¥, and ¢¥cooporation system among graduate schools¢¥.
The results of the study as follows :
Masters degree course in the graduate school of nursing is opened in 14 graduate schools, and 6 graduate schools have educational objectives and goals of graduate school of nursing. More than half of graduate schools of nursing don¢¥t have independent educational objectives and goals of graduate school.
The most crucial funtions of masters degree programs in nursing are ¢¥research function¢¥ and producing function of professors. The next is ¢¥producing function of high class professional human resources¢¥, and then ¢¥continuous educational function of professional human resources¢¥, and then ¢¥reeducational function of professional human resources¢¥.
In entrance qualification of masters degree course in the graduate schools of nursing, 8 schools receive those whose major is not the same. This case is the most one.
In total complete credits, 6 schools require 24 credits. This case is the most one.
In complete subjects of the curriculum in masters degree course, the number and names of the common compulsory subjects, elective subjects and major subjects are various in every graduate school individually.
In survey of whether there is program for training clinical specialist and nurse practitioner in masters degree course or not, 13 schools don¢¥t have such a program. This case is the most one.
The most crucial functions of masters degree coures in professional graduate school of nursing are `producing function of high class professional human resources¢¥, ¢¥continuous educational function of professional human resources¢¥ with ¢¥research function¢¥.
The most cruial functions of doctoral degreecourse in graduate school of nursing are ¢¥producing function of professors¢¥. 6 schools have this function.
In total complete credits of the doctoral degree course, 60 credits are required including complete credits of masters degree course.
In the results of survey about administration. finances, and facilities of graduate schools, because budget of graduate school and undergraduate school is indistinguishable, financial investment is poor. There are no wholly responsible staffs for graduate school, and exclusive facilities for graduate school are not enough.
Concerning the welfare for the graduate students, most schools have a scholarship, but the number of the recipient and amount of scholarship are not con-tented.
In many schools, there is no restriction of the number of the students for whom professors teach theses for a degree.
Most of graduate schools don¢¥t keep cooperation system among domestic graduate schools or foreign graduate schools
